THE BRAINS OF THE BUSINESS

Ilya and Rosie have been running the company officially as a business since January 2018. Not only do they manage the company but they also act, direct and produce for ETD. Good team all-rounders with a passion for performance. 

ROSIE THORPE - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Born and bred in Kent, ENGLAND, Rosie went on to train as a professional actor at the Arts University, Bournemouth (AUB). Since graduating in 2010, Rosie has worked predominantly in theatre, touring in Germany, Austria and the UK with theatre companies such as Selladoor theatre, Vienna’s English Theatre and White Horse Theatre. This is where Rosie discovered a love for performing English theatre to non-native audiences, and gave her the idea to set up her very own English-speaking theatre company „English Theatre Düsseldorf“. Rosie not only works in Theatre but also in Voiceover. 

ILYA PARENTEAU  - CO-ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Ilya from Chicago, USA, is a professional actress, musical theatre soloist, director, choreographer and drama teacher.  She was a scholarship student at Robert Joffrey’s American Ballet Center in NYC, and the Ellis-DuBoulay school of Ballet in Chicago and studied Theater at the University of Utah, the University of North Carolina and the Circle in the Square in NYC. Ms. Parenteau’s credits span from Shakespeare plays to musicals; "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" with PlayMaker’s Repertory Co., "Footloose" with Paramount Pictures, Demeter in "Cats" with the Really Useful Co., Zürich, CH, the Chicago Opera Theater, the Muny Opera Theater… 

PRODUCTION ASSISTANCE & ADMINISTRATION

OLIVIA WOODROW 

Born in England, Olivia then moved to Germany with her family at the age of 11. Attending the International School of Düsseldorf, she was an active participant both on and off stage within the theatre department. Following graduation she returned to England to gain her BA in Film, Television and Digital Production at Royal Holloway University. Specialising in Producing, she completed her studies having produced a 10-minute short film called ‘Captain Stardust’ and held the position of Station Manager for the University and Community Radio Station. Since then she has returned to live in Germany and is excited to be assisting the English Theatre Düsseldorf with their education department and administration. 


MARKETING

GAONE MAGOGWE-MUTH


Gaone Magogwe-Muth is an online Marketer who hails from Gaborone, Botswana.

Gaone studied Media, Communication and Culture (majoring in journalism and public relations with a minor in literature and culture studies) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

After moving to Germany, Gaone received a professional qualification in Digital Marketing, during which she worked with ETD as an attachee.

Gaone is now part of the ETD team and handles the marketing department.

JACK FAIREY - PLAYWRIGHT / CREATIVE WRITING PEDAGOGUE

Jack is a playwright and theatremaker from London, England. He holds an MA in Scriptwriting from the University of East Anglia's prestigious Creative Writing department, as well as a degree in Drama and Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, University of London. Productions of his plays have been staged in London, Edinburgh, and across the UK, being nominated for Off West End and Standing Ovation Awards. Jack performed in English Theatre Dusseldorf's first Shakespeare Am Rhein production, Romeo and Juliet, in Summer 2022. 

SCHELAINE BENNETT - MUSICAL THEATRE / THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Schelaine Bennett is a South African born actor who established her career on the international scene in 2006. Her passion and versatility have led her to the spotlight for commercials, movies and TV series such as Love on Safari (Hallmark USA), Good Omens (Amazon Prime), Red Sea Diving Resort (Netflix) and Unseen (Netflix).


Straight after her graduation in Performing Arts (Dance, Drama & Musical Theatre) in 2007 she explored Live television as a Broadcaster for a daily show called Hectic Nine9. She subsequently found herself booked on numerous drama series where she embodied different roles. 


Currently based in Germany, Schelaine enjoys a fruitful acting career and also utilizes her skillset behind the scene as a Dance & Drama teacher, Performance Coach and Casting Director for all age groups.

VIVS TAKAHASHI - THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Vivs Takahashi is a singer, actress and drama teacher from São Paulo, Brazil. Having an extensive experience with theatre, musicals and voice over and having also worked many years as an English teacher, she had the opportunity to combine her acting and English skills and became a drama teacher at two very well known English schools in Brazil, called Red Balloon and Cultura Inglesa. Theatrical games, songs, dance and improvisations were always part of her classes. Later on, Vivs became the assistant coordinator of the Red Balloon Drama Group and she started planning lessons, training teachers and taking care of the school’s theatre productions. After moving to Germany, she started working as a workshop leader and actress for the English Theatre Düsseldorf.

VANESSA HARTMANN - MUSICAL THEATRE / THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Vanessa grew up in Romford, England and in southern Germany. She got her BA in Musical Theatre in 2010 from Buckinghamshire New University. Since then she has been working as a theatre and screen performer as well as a teacher in various countries. Vanessa first started teaching when she joined the Pauline Quirke Academy in 2015, teaching Drama. Since she has been in Düsseldorf she taught Drama at the International School Düsseldorf next to performing herself and currently gives Performance Training for singers at the Singers' Institute in Düsseldorf. Vanessa joined the ETD in 2020 when she performed in the musical 'Cinderella' and is now teaching 'Musical Theatre' classes there.

PASCAL GRÜNDKEN - THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Pascal has been madly in love with theatre and acting ever since his very first performance in high school. While studying English and French in Bonn, he joined the Bonn University Shakespeare Company which did not merely offer him significant insights into foreign language theatre but also intensified his interest in the performing arts of all kinds. After his training at the Akademie Off-Theater nrw in Neuss, the discipline of theatre pedagogy enabled him to combine his passion for acting with his love for education, which led him to work for the Forumtheater inszene and offer theatre clubs at primary school. Pascal always seeks to pass on his ever-lasting fascination and admiration to his students and participants.

SOPHIE LUKER - THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Originally from London, England, Sophie is an Actress and teacher of Theatre/Dance and English.  She studied Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies at Roehampton University, England. Sophie worked in London for several years in Theatre, Films and radio plays before having the pleasure to travel and teach Theatre abroad in America, Australia, Middle East, Singapore and now Germany. 

Sophie is currently teaching Theatre at the International School on the Rhine in Neuss (ISR) and in several Kindergartens and Language schools throughout Dusseldorf. 

DEVON NICKEL - THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Devon is a theatre workshop leader and actor. He hails from Phoenix, Arizona, USA. His acting work extends across regional theatre and tours, to world premiers. His favourite roles include Alan Strang in "Equus" (Phoenix New Times Best Actor), Huckleberry Finn in "Big River" (Arizona Best Actor-Musical Nomination), Leo Joseph-Connell in "4000 Miles", Arles/etc. in "Greater Tuna", and John McClain in "Die Hard Christmas" with a company near and dear to his heart, All Puppet Players. 

HANNAH NUTTALL - MUSICAL THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Hannah Nuttall is a Drama teacher as well as a professional actress and singer, originally from Essex, England. 

Hannah trained at London School of Musical Theatre, and has been working professionally in the industry for 10 years. She is also LAMDA trained, with Gold Level Acting (Duologue) and Verse and Pros.

Hannah has been teaching performing arts within local drama schools for over 12 years, working with children aged 4 to 18.  Her strengths lie in Musical Theatre, as well as drama and singing workshops.

JOHANNA SCHOLTISSEK - THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Johanna is a bilingual theatre pedagogue from Essen with over a decade of experience in youth work (CVJM), theatre and education. She started working with kids and teenagers at the age of fourteen and gradually made pedagogy her profession. Theatre has always been part of her life both as a member of the audience and on stage from an early age on. This is why she started acting classes as a teenager in the Junges Theater Bonn and never stopped after that. While studying education and English at the University of Duisburg-Essen she was part of only connect - an English drama group led by a professional actress and director - for two and a half years. After that she studied theatre pedagogy and clownery at the Akademie off-Theater nrw in Neuss and has received some training in the technique of forum theatre with the Forumtheater inszene, which she is also serving as a workshop leader. During her training in Neuss she has discovered her love for directing plays as well as performance art and would like to do more in this field. She is also very passionate and eager to try new things and learn about other people’s perspective on life.

CLARE HOLSTEIN - THEATRE / MUSICAL THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Originally from California, Clare comes from an interdisciplinary theatre background. She has worked as a professional actress, singer, and director. In addition to performing, Clare has been teaching music, English, and drama for over a decade. After working in the U.S., China, and Spain, she is thrilled to be in Germany.

Prior to embarking on her adventure as a performer and teacher Clare trained at California Institute of the Arts, SF Conservatory of Music, and the American Conservatory Theatre. She is currently undergoing a theatre studies degree at Rose Bruford College of Performing Arts. 

Clare brings her passion for performance to students of all ages and enjoys teaching as much as she loves performing because she really does believe that, as Shakespeare put it, “all the world’s a stage”.

MARIANNE EILERS GONZÁLES - THEATRE PEDAGOGUE

Marianne grew up in Viña del Mar, Chile, and pursued an interdisciplinary degree in Arts and Humanities at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She specialised in the Theory and Practice of the Scene, with minors in Universal Literature and Psychology. She later relocated to London to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Directing for Stage and Screen, graduating in 2023. During her time in London, she gained experience as an assistant director, stage manager, writer, director, and producer. In her last work, she developed a play titled 'Alerta,' for which she served as the writer, producer, and director. The play premiered in July 2023 at the Bread and Roses Theatre in London to remarkable success. Recently, Marianne moved to Düsseldorf and is actively exploring teaching and facilitating roles with the ETD. Through her work, she seeks to empower artists and performers to embrace their personal and cultural backgrounds, contributing to a larger universal emotional narrative. She advocates for a diverse, inclusive, multicultural, and gender perspective within creative spaces. She remains dedicated to using art as a powerful tool for social justice and community connection.
